Clark loses what he holds dear, his family, so he sets off on a mission for revenge but also ends up helping the United States government in their ongoing battle against Russia. The filmmakers didn't want to make a throwback period movie, so they had to update the characters and plot to explain how Navy SEAL John Kelly transforms into lethal shadow operative John Clark. The movie, originally slated for release in theaters last year, is being released worldwide on the Amazon Prime streaming service and fits in well with the channel's take on "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan" in their successful series starring John Krasinski.
The film, which debuts on Amazon Prime on Friday, stars Jordan as John Kelly (later known as John Clark), a Navy SEAL who avenges his wife's murder only to find himself inside a larger conspiracy. It is based on the character in Clancy's Jack Ryan Universe, something Jordan came to know growing up thanks to the popular Rainbow Six video game. The actor, who also produced Without Remorse, saw the film an opportunity to "take a familiar character and breathe some fresh air into it." One of the ways to give the film that fresh feel was to modernize Clancy's story, including introducing a female, high-ranking Navy SEAL commander into the story, Jodie Turner-Smith's Karen Greer.

But as he investigates further into the attack, the US Navy SEAL stumbles onto a sinister plot which aims to start a tense war between America and Russia for reasons unknown. Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse is a weirdly mixed bag. It starts with a shaky by-the-numbers set up (A dead wife? In an action thriller? Groundbreaking…) as Kelly sets out on his payback mission in a story that feels like Shooter crossed with Marvel’s The Punisher. Although the stereotypical globetrotting conspiracy does feature plenty of action to let Jordan really shine in some fast-paced fight scenes. And let’s face it, his title as a US Navy SEAL Senior Chief is just a fancy way of saying he can take on an entire prison riot squad by himself. But the soldier uses brains as well as brawn, meticulously planning various confrontations in ways that give him the advantage.
