CPS owners, exec paying $4.1M to settle fraud claims


Comprehensive Pain Specialists, its four majority owners and a former company executive have agreed to pay more than $4.1 million to settle civil claims brought by the state and federal government that the company defrauded Medicare and TennCare $25 million through an allegedly frivolous lab testing scheme.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee originally sought 
$50 million in damages from the company and co-owners Peter Kroll, Gilberto Carrero, Richard Muench and former state senator Steve Dickerson, alongside former executives John Davis and Russell Smith. Individual claims brought against Carrero and Dickerson were all dropped and Kroll, Smith, Muench and the company have since negotiated settlements. ....

(NASHVILLE)  The Tennessee Rights To Life group won an appeal dealing with a required waiting period prior to receiving an abortion.
On Friday (4/9/2021), the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals granted the State of Tennessee's petition for an en banc appeal of an earlier decision by the Appeals Court to uphold the injunction against Tennessee’s 48-hour waiting period with regard to abortions. MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Tennessee Attorney General is urging the U.S. Department of Education to forgive some student loans.
Tennessee joined 24 other states and the District of Columbia in asking the federal government to cancel student loan debt for certain ITT Tech students.
Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery says ITT Tech used deceptive tactics between 2007 and 2011 to convince students to borrow money and enroll. ....
