BOOK festival bosses have axed a Harry Potter quiz because of author JK Rowling’s stance on trans issues.
Organisers of the Featherston Booktown Kurakatea bash said they acted after talks with the LGBTQ community and literary experts.

Festival chairman Peter Biggs told local media in New Zealand: “The overwhelming response was there was a risk around causing distress to particular members of the community and that was the last thing we wanted.
“We always thought that Booktown should be an inclusive, welcoming place for everyone, so we took the decision not to go with Harry Potter.” ....

Edinburgh boost as fintech EedenBull seals five-year agreement with Australian banking giant

Financial technology outfit EedenBull has sealed a five-year agreement with National Australia Bank (NAB), in a move that will provide a boost for its growing Edinburgh operation.

The deal will allow the banking giant to deploy the fintech firm’s payment and spend management platform to its customer base of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
EedenBull is already partnering with 65 banks in Europe, and is now further expanding its global reach with banks such as National Australia Bank – a former owner of the Clydesdale Bank. ....

Professor Lesley Lokko Awarded 2020 RIBA Annie Spink Award for Excellence in Architectural Education

Congratulations to Lesley, who received the biennial award for her role as an educator, pioneer and advocate in architectural education around the world.
The prestigious prize was established in 2000, and is awarded by RIBA to individuals who “have made an outstanding contribution to architectural education in a higher education institution”. The estate of architect Herbert Spink bequeathed the Annie Spink Memorial Trust to RIBA in honour of his wife, for the “advancement of architectural education”.
Lesley is an architect and an academic advocate. She trained as an architect at The Bartlett during the 1990s. She completed her PhD at The Bartlett in 2007 and is now a Visiting Professor for the School. In 2014 she founded and led the Graduate School of Architecture at the University of Johannesburg, and has also taught at Iowa State University, University of Illinois, Kingston University, Universit ....
