National Guardsmen were allowed back inside the U.S. Capitol on Thursday night after having been moved to a parking garage.
Guardsmen had moved to a nearby parking garage after they were ordered to vacate the Capitol and other congressional buildings, Politico reported. They were asked to set up mobile command centers outside of the Capitol or at hotels.
Guardsmen were also told to take their breaks in parking garages, the outlet reported. ....

National Guard Troops In D.C. Once Again Allowed To Rest In U.S. Capitol Following Controversy

The National Guard members stationed in Washington D.C., who could be seen resting in a cramped part of a parking garage late Thursday night, have now been let back into the Capitol Building where they have been staying for two weeks.
CBS News reports the controversy began around 3 p.m. Thursday when Capitol Police asked the guardsmen to relocate since they were resting in hallways during a time with increased foot traffic in the building. CAPD said in a statement just hours earlier that the department immensely appreciates the integral support of the U.S. National Guard in helping to secure the Capitol Complex leading up to, and including the Inaugural ceremony. Sometime after, the guardsmen were asked to leave the premises. ....

Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) offered his office to National Guardsmen late Thursday evening after members were forced to leave the Capitol grounds because of a prior complaint from a Democrat congressman, who allegedly took issue after spotting a maskless Guardsman in a cafe earlier in the day.
“To any members of the National Guard protecting our Capitol if you need a warm place to rest and recharge, my office is open to you,” Gonzales said late Thursday as pictures began to emerge on social media showing soldiers sleeping in a parking garage as D.C. temperatures dipped into the 40s. ....

As I mentioned last night, thousands of members of the National Guard who’d been sleeping at the Capitol as part of the effort to secure the inauguration suddenly got told to vacate the premises yesterday. Thousands were sent to sleep in a parking garage and were reportedly all sharing one power outlet and more significantly, just one porta-potty.
