Ringgit unchanged against US dollar but higher versus other major currencies » Borneo Bulletin Online

April 6, 2021
KUALA LUMPUR (BERNAMA) – The ringgit opened unchanged against the United States (US) dollar yesterday but was higher versus a basket of major currencies, supported by the seasonal demand bounce on crude oil demand.
At 9am, the local unit stood at 4.1380/1430 versus the greenback from 4.1380/1420 at Friday’s close.
Axi Chief Global Market Strategist Stephen Innes said the positive trend for the local note against the major currencies (except with the US dollar) was also due to the recovery in the bond market, which recovered sharply last week on the FTSE news.
“Malaysia will remain in the FTSE World Government Bond Index (WBGI), removing a vital overhang of the past two years. Stretched absolute yields and low liquidity had likely contributed to the rally. ....

U.S. Treasuries prices extended their steepest sell-off in months, with the benchmark yield at its highest in 10 months. Victories in two Georgia races handed the Democratic Party narrow control of the U.S. Senate, bolstering Biden’s power to pass his agenda with his party controlling both chambers. ....

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar today on the back of improving crude oil prices.
At 9.07am, the ringgit was quoted at 4.0470/0520 versus the greenback compared with 4.0490/0530 yesterday.
Axi Chief Global Market Strategist Stephen Innes said the ringgit could claw back some losses on recovering oil market sentiment.
“However, year-end position squaring proclivities could be the order of the day as the forex markets become very much transactional rather than speculative at this time of year,” he said. ....
