Mass shooting at North Carolina party kills 3, wounds 4 others

A mass shooting at a house party in North Carolina killed three people and wounded four others, marking the latest in a string of fatal shootings that has rocked the nation.
The Wilmington Police Department said it is investigating the shooting, which took place shortly after midnight on Friday night.
Police responding to the scene found that “a gunfight had erupted inside the home during a house party and seven people were struck by gunfire.”

“Three of the seven are deceased. The remaining four victims are being treated at New Hanover Regional Medical Center,” the department added. ....

Washington needs to address the rising tide of 'ghost guns'

Federal firearm regulators recently met with gun industry representatives to discuss weapons that can be made from parts purchased online, called “ghost guns.” These firearms, manufactured without a serial number, are virtually untraceable and for that reason, increasingly prevalent. The meeting is an encouraging sign that the Biden administration may be ready to act on one of the most significant emerging threats to public safety in America.
Just how big a threat? In February, Los Angeles law enforcement officials arrested a suspect who allegedly was manufacturing ghost guns, including high-capacity rifles, and selling them to gang members. Months earlier, a convicted felon in neighboring Compton ambushed Sheriff’s deputies sitting in their car, shooting them in the face and head with a ghost gun. ....

Police ID Saturday shooting victims at Acropolis Steakhouse
UPDATE: Two men were killed as the surge in gun violence continued over the weekend.
Shootings continued to climb in Portland over the weekend, with a second person dying from a Saturday incident in Southeast Portland and police responding to at least four shootings in different neighborhoods on Sunday.
The victims are identified as William Peters, 40, of Portland, and Adam David-Lawrence Arrambide, 36, of La Pine. No suspect information has been released.
According to police, Peters and Arrambide were shot at the Acropolis Steakhouse in the 8300 block of SE McLoughlin Boulevard shortly before 11:30 p.m on Saturday, Feb. 27. First responders declared one of the victims dead at the scene, and the other had life-threatening injuries and had been taken to the hospital. He was declared deceased on Sunday. ....
