Missouri Rep. Tricia Derges indicted for fake stem cell COVID-19 cure


State Rep. Tricia Derges, who runs multiple health clinics for low-income patients in the Ozarks area, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of felony wire fraud, illegal distribution of controlled substances and making false statements, federal prosecutors revealed this week.
Derges, R-Nixa, pleaded not guilty in her initial appearance Monday afternoon and was released without bond. Her case is set for jury trial March 22, though that could be delayed. Documents show she is being represented by Springfield-based attorney Stacie Bilyeu.
In a news conference after the plea was entered, Tim Garrison, the U.S. Attorney for Missouri’s Western District, laid out the case against her. ....

Montgomery: The state on Monday launched an online portal for people to check their eligibility for COVID-19 vaccinations and make appointments. The Alabama Department of Public Health said the site at alcovidvaccine.gov will allow those eligible to make an appointment if shots are available in their county of choice. The portal also provides information about additional drive-thru and walk-in clinics being offered. Starting next Monday, Alabama will expand who is eligible for the vaccine to everyone 65 and older, educators, court officials, corrections officers, postal employees, grocery store workers, some manufacturing workers, public transit workers, agriculture employees, state legislators and constitutional officers. A federal grand jury Monday unsealed a 20-count indictment against state Rep. Tricia Derges, R-Nixa, for allegedly selling fake stem cell treatments at three southwest Missouri clinics.
According to U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri Tim Garrison’s office in Kansas City, Derges is accused of marketing “treatments” with amniotic fluid, illegally prescribing narcotics between 2018-20 and lying to federal agents.
“This defendant abused her privileged position to enrich herself through deception,” Garrison said. “The indictment alleges she lied to her patients and she lied to federal agents. As an elected official and a health care provider, she deserves to be held to a high standard.” ....
