How DC riots could leave an impact on Jacksonville political landscape
One political expert said it will bode well if local Republicans distance themselves from what happened in Washington DC last week. Author: Troy Kless (First Coast News) Published: 5:17 PM EST January 12, 2021 Updated: 8:35 PM EST January 12, 2021
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Local Republicans are condemning the violent attack on the US Capitol. That riot is putting law enforcement officials on alert to prepare for unrest not just in DC, but around the country.
Despite last week’s insurrection, one of Jacksonville’s GOP leaders say their party’s future remains bright.
“What we saw play out last week was appalling and deeply regrettable, and a stain on the Republic frankly, Dean Black, chairman of the Duval County Republican Party, said. It occurred though, against the backdrop of a series of acts of political violence over the past several years.”
A threatening note saying we want blood was posted at the back door of the Duval County Democratic Party headquarters last weekend, according to party officials and police.
The note, containing names and faces of party officers including Chairman Daniel Henry, demanded the recent national votes for Democratic President-elect Joe Biden be overturned.
Security camera video shot about 12:15 p.m. on Dec. 12 shows the man emerge from the woods wearing latex gloves and what appears to be a gas mask. He s seen walking up and tapes the note on the back door at the headquarters at 5711 Bowden Road. You lost the election. Redress our grievances now or we will, the note said. Be back later.
