Cannabis company brings pet care to homeless community

SAN DIEGO
Boss Baby squirmed in the arms of her owner Wednesday morning, anxious about the veterinarian approaching her with a needle.
She yelped at the jab, and Marie Hickerson held her tighter to let her know it would be OK.
“She’s my soul,” she said about her Chihuahua. “My clarity. My serenity.”
Hickerson and her fiancé Paul Louderback have been homeless for the past couple of years and are living in a tent on National Avenue in downtown San Diego. Louderback said having Boss Baby and her puppy, Bear, around helps with the ordeal they face day to day. ....

What You Need to Know About 'Cruelty Free' Beauty

Standing in the skincare and cosmetics aisle of any pharmacy or department store can easily make your head spin not only are there countless brands, formulations, ingredients, and colors to choose from, but you may also be poring over labels trying to decipher which products are the most ethical and sustainable, too. Perhaps you’ve seen the bunny logo on a bottle of moisturizer, lip balm, or eyeshadow suggesting it’s a cruelty free beauty product but what exactly does it mean?
“Skincare products and cosmetics labeled ‘Cruelty Free,’ or that have the cute bunny logo, generally imply that the products, ingredients, or formulations were not tested on animals at any stage of the products process,” explains celebrity aesthetician and dermatological nurse Natalie Aguilar. “However, there is no standard or legal definition of what exactly is or isn’t allowed to be labeled as cruelty free. The FDA has no regulations for the term because there is no legal definit ....

North Fort Collins homeless shelter sites rise to the top

After nearly two years of study  interrupted by a pandemic  a proposed shelter for people experiencing homelessness is likely right back where it started: somewhere in north Fort Collins.
The second iteration of the city s Homelessness Advisory Committee  a scaled-down version of the 2019 group studying the need, possible funding and locations for a new shelter is leaning heavily toward two sites in north Fort Collins: 1311 N. College Ave. and county-owned property at Vine Drive and Redwood Street.
Both are close to transit stops and existing services for people experiencing homelessness, making them favored locations by much of the committee.
I see a clear direction here, said David Rout, executive director of Homeward Alliance, which runs the Sister Mary Alice Murphy Center that provides services for the homeless. Both sites make sense in terms of location, he said. There seems to be less controversy around Vine and Redwood.   ....

A group of veterinarians and pet owners in California is asking the state to permit more telemedicine for animals even after the pandemic ends.
In a federal lawsuit to be filed Monday, the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says the state should not end waivers allowed during the pandemic for remote visits and asks that the rules be relaxed further. ....
