Most politicians have term limits, but judges do not. Judges across the U.S. hold powerful positions, but they are often not well known to the public. Many judges are elected by voters just like mayors, state legislators and members of Congress. But most voters know very little about judges running to be elected.
This week, a diverse group of residents, parents, and students filled a large room at Hilltop High School in Chula Vista to learn about the judicial branch of government and how they can approach voting for judges, as part of a workshop to promote civic education and engagement making its way throughout the state entitled Judge the Judges. ....

Hatton: How is Jones Day involved in the fight against human trafficking and what is your role?
Kirschner: Jones Day is marshaling a coordinated global effort to combat both labor and sex trafficking, while also providing justice for survivors. In 2016, Jones Day launched the Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force to guide the work being done and to focus on developing specific solutions to this global problem. ....

Black Lawyers Submit Names of Three Candidates for California Attorney General

The California Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) submitted the names of three accomplished African American attorneys to the California Legislative Black Caucus (CLBC) as possible candidates for the state’s soon-to-be open Attorney General position.
In a 46-page document that includes biographical data of the organization’s recommendations, CABL called on Black members of the state Legislature to support attorneys Diane Becton, Paul Henderson or Terry Wiley to become the next Attorney General. The group also forwarded the proposal listing the candidates they are supporting – all public servants with significant experience to Gov. Gavin Newsom. ....
