Dems Want To Make COVID-19 Relief Provisions Permanent In New Package

Dems Want To Make COVID-19 Relief Provisions Permanent In New Package
Washington Times (DC)
The cost of President Biden s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package is on track to double if popular provisions like an expansion of the child tax credit are made permanent, which is exactly what Democrats say they plan to do.
The new package includes a one-year expansion of the child tax credit and bolsters other popular tax breaks like the earned income credit. If made permanent, it would be expected to increase the cost of the package to as high as $4 trillion.
Overall, we could be looking at the cost of this package doubling from $2 trillion to $4 trillion over the decade, said Brian Riedl, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. And if that happens, interestingly, the permanent extensions will cost as much as the 2017 tax cuts. ....

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and lobbying groups for tech giants have filed a lawsuit against the state of Maryland over its newly enacted tax on digital advertising sales, according to a leading advertising official.
Dan Jaffe, executive president of government affairs for The Association of National Advertisers, said the lawsuit was brought against Maryland because its “digital advertising tax is exactly the kind of proposal the Internet Tax Freedom Act bans. [It] also raises serious First Amendment and due process issues.” ....

Why Trump will be able to keep his post-presidency perks even if he is convicted by the Senate

Article content
I don t think he can be trusted with it
For Trump, the annual value of these benefits will likely exceed $1 million. Each year, U.S. taxpayers spend about $4 million to provide perks to the four living former presidents, according to a report by the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, a government spending watchdog.
The most valuable perk is the office space. Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama each had more than $500,000 in office rent covered by taxpayers in 2020, according to the report.
CAN PRESIDENTS BE STRIPPED OF THESE BENEFITS?
Yes, but only if they are removed from office during their presidency, said Brian Kalt, a law professor at Michigan State University. Being impeached by the House of Representatives does not impact the benefits. ....
