Dubbo Regional Council staff member, Kerryann Stanley, has been named as a successful recipient of the Councillor Pat Dixon Memorial Scholarship for 2021.
Councillor Pat Dixon was the first Aboriginal woman elected to Local Government in Australia and worked tirelessly for the community she represented. In recognition of her service and achievements in Local Government, the scholarship was established for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Councillors and council staff across NSW to undertake further study, professional development or research. The scholarship is administered by Local Government NSW (LGNSW), and the recipients are determined by four trustees. ....

First Nations call for increased water ownership of Murray-Darling river system

Cultural burn planned for Nowra's Triplarina Nature Reserve

Cultural burn planned for Nowra’s Triplarina Nature Reserve
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is supporting a cultural burn planned for Triplarina Nature Reserve on Monday 12 April, weather permitting.
Ms Julianne Doyle from NPWS said the 2-hectare burn will be done together with Aboriginal fire practitioners from the Nowra Aboriginal community and Firestick Alliance members.
“The burn is planned to take place in the northern part of the Reserve, just off Yalwal Road which is opposite Filter Road, and will be conducted over a number of days,” said Ms Doyle.
“West Nowra residents may see or smell smoke coming from the Reserve and we thank the Reserve neighbours for their understanding. ....

Aboriginal Tourism Grants to enhance experiences in Territory

The Territory Labor Government has awarded more than $220,000 in funding to support 14 projects under round two of the Aboriginal Tourism Grant program.
Eight Aboriginal owned and operated tourism businesses in the Top End will receive more than $135,500 while six businesses in Central Australia will benefit from $92,900.
Grant funding will back key projects including business plans, infrastructure upgrades, bush camp facility improvements and training programs.
Saltwater Cultural Tours, based in Darwin, has been awarded a $19,500 grant to install two containers and decking for the development of cultural tours.
In Central Australia, the Menge Aboriginal Corporation has been awarded a $20,000 grant to support a concept plan for the development of a tourism connect hub and Aboriginal training facility in the heart of the West MacDonnell Ranges. ....
