The 93rd Academy Awards: Best picture nominees “The Father,” “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Mank,” “Minari,” “Nomadland,” “Promising Young Woman,” “Sound of Metal” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” are among the features that will be celebrated. Because of the pandemic, the 2021 Oscars will be held at Union Station Los Angeles and the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center, plus international locations that will beam in via satellite. It’s about speaking truth to power from the stage of a Goth nightclub in Newark.
In “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” Sacha Baron Cohen, as Abbie Hoffman, narrates the trial in front of a crowd in a comedy club setting. It happened in real life as Hoffman would lay it out at the Second City comedy club in Chicago as the trial was happening in 1969.
In the movie, the scenes were filmed at the QXT’s Goth club in front of the venue’s lighted “Candle Wall” in December of 2019. ....
