As the storm system Yaas heads towards the north Odisha-West Bengal coast, several thousand people are set to be evacuated from the coastal districts of both States. Officials of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Kolkata said on Monday that the very severe cyclonic storm will make landfall by Wednesday.
External Affairs Minister S. Chandigarh allows shops to open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.


Decision in view of substantial reduction in number of cases
The Union Territory Chandigarh on Monday decided to allow shops to open as the COVID-19 cases have started to drop.
The decision was taken in a meeting presided over by Punjab Governor cum administrator of Chandigarh V.P. Singh Badnore here.
An official statement said all shops will be allowed to remain open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in view of the substantial reduction in the number of cases. However, the premises will be totally sanitised. All customers entering the shops must wear masks. It said all shopping malls, cinema halls, theatres, museums, gyms, libraries, spas, salons, ‘Sukhna Lake’ and ‘Rock Garden’ will remain shut. The night curfew from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. will continue. ....

Novel complication of Black Fungus Infection In Intestine Diagnosed in COVID-19 Patients in Delhi

As the number of Black fungus infections reported among COVID-19 patients in the country rises, a novel complication of the infection in the lower intestine has been reported in two patients at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi. The patients aged 56 and 68 have been receiving treatment for over a week.
According to hospital authorities, the fungal infection which is also known as mucormycosis caused damage to the lower intestines of the two patients. It is observed for the first time that the black fungus infected the lower intestine and even made a hole in it, said authorities at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. ....

Amid surge in COVID-19 cases, Union Territory Chandigarh has announced a ‘weekend lockdown’ between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The decision to impose weekend curfew, among other restrictions, was taken at a meeting presided by Punjab Governor and Chandigarh’s administrator V.P. Singh Badnore.
A government order said there will be a weekend lockdown starting from 10 p.m. on April 16 till 5 a.m. on April 19. The residents must stay indoors during the lockdown period and only essential activities will be allowed. Home delivery of food will be allowed, it said. ....
