Thousands join protests in Brazil calling for Bolsonaro impeachment

Thousands of Brazilians have taken to the streets for a second day to call for the impeachment of President Jair Bolsonaro, who is under fire for his government’s response to coronavirus which has killed more than 216,000 people in the country.
Horn-honking cars paraded through the streets of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and at least a dozen other cities as other protesters marched on foot, some calling “Get out Bolsonaro!”
Sunday’s protests were called by conservative groups who had once backed the president, while those on Saturday came from the left.
“When Bolsonaro arrived, we voted for him for his proposals that we found interesting, but the situation now with the pandemic is terrible,” said Meg Fernandes, a 66-year-old engineer who joined a protest in Rio on Sunday.

Rio de Janeiro SCRAPS this year's carnival due to Covid-19

Rio de Janeiro will not host its famous carnival this year due to a deadly revival of the coronavirus epidemic in Brazil, the city's mayor Eduardo Paes has announced.
Rio's samba schools, which organise the celebratory parades, had hoped to hold the signature event in July after it was postponed from its usual slot in February or March.
But in a tweet late Thursday, Paes quashed the possibility of holding the event this year, adding that it would 'foolish to imagine at this point that the conditions will exist for us to hold the carnival in July'.
Brazil has been in the grips of a second wave of infections since November, with more than 1,000 daily deaths and an overall toll of more than 214,000 deaths - second only to the United States.

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Walmart Inc, the world’s largest retailer, said on Friday it was selling its retail operations in Argentina to South American supermarket chain owner Grupo de Narváez, pulling back as the country grapples with an economic crisis.

The U.S. company did not disclose the size of the deal for retail operations involving more than 90 stores, but said it would record about a $1 billion after-tax, non-cash loss related to the divestiture in its fiscal third quarter next year.
