EUCLID, Ohio (WOIO) - A popular Euclid roller rink, some call a “neighborhood nuisance,” will be allowed to remain open.
This week, the City of Euclid and Mig’s Pla-Mor roller rink came to an agreement on how the business will operate going forward.
The city had filed a motion with the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, trying to get the roller rink shut down, due to teen violence.
The rink, on Shore Center Drive, has been home to several crimes the last few years, many involving teens. The incidents ranged from fights to riots involving several hundred people. ....

Supreme Court: Derek Chauvin reenergizes qualified immunity debate

The same way a reasonable police officer would never suffocate an unarmed man to death, a reasonable justice system would recognize its roots in white supremacy and end qualified immunity, tweeted Derrick Johnson, president of the NAACP.

Several experts said they don t expect the Chauvin trial to change the political calculation or the Supreme Court s reluctance to explore the issue broadly – at least not right away.
The nation s highest court dodged the issue last year, declining to hear a number of cases dealing with the doctrine. Those decisions came after George Floyd s death and the nationwide protests and riots that it sparked. On the other hand, the court has more recently instructed the lower courts to reconsider claims of qualified immunity in a handful of cases.   ....

Prisoners’ stimulus: A lawsuit from the American Civil Liberties Union argues Ohio’s prison system has been unconstitutionally garnishing inmates’ COVID-19 relief money to pay for fines, fees, and other debts to courts and state agencies. Hubbard and Tirado were pulled over for traffic violations.
“This settlement represents some hard-won justice for Richard Hubbard and Yolimar Tirado. Now they can move towards closure. Thankfully Richard didn’t die and he wasn’t permanently injured. In this respect, Euclid dodged a bullet with Richard’s case. The City of Euclid and cities across this country need to look take a long, hard look at the culture inside their police departments and hopefully learn from this awful episode,” said Attorney P ....
