Business owners, elected officials, town staff and other stakeholders meet Wednesday, July 21, for a breakout discussion during the Summit County Housing Action Initiative at the Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center in Breckenridge. The event was focused on identifying actionable steps for how various groups could work together to help mitigate the affordable housing shortage.
Coffee cups were filled, name tags were pinned and the room at Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center was buzzing with chatter from leaders across Summit County on Wednesday morning. Summit officials hope to strike a balance with short-, long-term housing needs

Summit County’s housing problem isn’t new, but if you’ve been one of the many residents trying to find a place to live in the past year, it’s been no easy task.
County officials gathered Thursday, April 29, to listen to a housing needs presentation by the Summit Combined Housing Authority. Consulting firm Economic & Planning Systems presented their findings
after conducting a housing study from March 2019 to March 2020. After a yearlong delay due to COVID-19, Economic & Planning Systems representatives David Schwartz and Rachel Shindman showcased the data, which highlighted the region’s current housing needs. ....

Breckenridge to gauge local support for ballot measure that would fund child care programming

The town of Breckenridge plans to survey residents about whether they would support a ballot measure to help fund the town’s child care centers.
The town’s child care program gives $800,000 per year to the child care centers including Little Red Schoolhouse, Carriage House, Timberline Learning Center and Breckenridge Montessori to support programming and teachers as well as access for local families in the form of tuition assistance. The current fund balance and the annual marijuana fund transfers can sustain the program into 2024, but after that, there isn’t a dependable funding stream. ....
