The Independent MASSILLON – When Whittier Elementary students return to school in the fall, they will be greeted by a new face. Marcus Simpson was named the school s new principal Wednesday during the Board of Education s monthly meeting. Simpson, a 1999 Washington High grad, replaces Matt Plybon, who will be moving to the middle school. He once walked the halls of the elementary school as a student. Since 2011, Simpson has served as assistant principal at Massillon Intermediate School. He began his career in education at Massillon Middle School teaching seventh-grade math before moving into the administrative role. I am excited, blessed and honored to be able to serve as the principal of Whittier Elementary,” Simpson said. “I love the city of Massillon and I am excited to continue my career in this great school district.” ....

I hope I m not the last. It s always and honor to be the first, but it s also a great honor to be a part of an organization like the State Police chaplains, she said. As a chaplain, Brown volunteers her time to provide troopers, their families and the community with spiritual counseling, religious referral and general character guidance through the various religious denominations within our society, according to the New Jersey State Police. ....

Sandlot Georgetown takes over the site of a demolished gas station, and will offer 240 outdoor seats, weekly live entertainment recently permitted by DC’s revised Covid regulations and a rotating cast of food and drink vendors.
