Living Tree bringing back face-to-face get togethers | Bridport and Lyme Regis News


A GROUP which supports those affected by cancer is hoping to bring back face-to-face get togethers this month.
Members of the Living Tree has not been able to host face-to-face gatherings inside since the start of the Covid pandemic in March 2020.
The group s trustees opened a new allotment in March of this year to allow members to interact in person whilst doing some gardening.
However, outside of the allotment, the group has only been able to offer Zoom meetings.
The trustees are hoping to be able to restart face-to-face meetings from Friday, July 23.
The group plans to use Church House Hall - adjacent to St Mary s Church on South Street - from 2pm until 4pm. The building can safely accommodate up to 30 people whilst still maintaining social distancing. ....

Throughout the 19th century, Carlisle newspapers made frequent references to polar exploration, and towards the end of that century, on those who came to Cumberland to lecture on the subject.
One of the earliest was Commander Cheyne, in 1895, who spoke of attempts to reach the North Pole by balloon.
An editorial in the Carlisle Journal stated in 1902 that there was “never a greater interest in polar exploration than today”.
It was reported in January, 1910, that “Lieutenant Sir Ernest Shackleton, the famous explorer who penetrated within 100 miles of the South Pole, will give a lecture in the Drill Hall on Friday, 25 February”. ....

John Hartley (Aug) asked if anyone remember Bewerley Park Camp School. As a twelve-year-old from Barnoldswick I was fortunate enough to have had the privilege of staying there, and I still have the programme of events that I produced at camp.
I was in Group 1, the head was a Mr Leadbetter aided by a friendly support staff which included a most helpful husband-and-wife caretakers. The latter magically repaired my torn blazer which I had caught on one of the iron fire bucket brackets found at the dormitory entrance.
The programme of events included bus and coach trips to Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey and Hall, Stump Cross Caverns, Howstean Gorge and Gouthwaite Reservoir. ....
