They might be miniature in stature but Cupcake and Shorty have bought big smiles to the faces of residents at a Sunshine Coast nursing home.
The 12-year-old mini horse and the 24-year-old Shetland pony brightened the day at Estia Health s Nambour home on Tuesday by attending a special morning tea as part of an animal therapy program.
The facility is home to more than 70 residents who require various levels of care.
Estia Health lifestyle co-ordinator Wendy May said she was inspired to bring animals into their lives after being brought up around them.
They are going to bring so much love and joy to the residents here, she said. ....

A Sunshine Coast woman has been jailed for six-and-a-half years for running a wholesale methamphetamine racket over two periods, and being involved in a gunpoint robbery where a victim was stabbed.
Mountain Creek woman Anikee Doreen Judy Sarre, 25, a former childcare worker of five years, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Wednesday to a variety of offences.
They included two counts of trafficking in a dangerous drug, possessing a commercial quantity of a drug, meth, armed robbery in company, and assault occasioning bodily harm.
The court heard Sarre trafficked meth over two occasions, from October 1 to December 2, 2018; and from March 3 to July 18, 2019. ....

Charity funds $70k equipment to ease patient wait times

A Sunshine Coast hospital charity has purchased new equipment to lessen patient wait times and help diagnose women s cancers faster.
Wishlist has funded a $72,365 colposcope which is used by the gynaecology team at Nambour Hospital for patients needing to have a procedure after an abnormal cervical screening test.
Wishlist chief executive Lisa Rowe said the charity was proud to fund the equipment to allow more women to be seen in shorter time frames.
I m told this service sees more than 1000 women a year, and as you can imagine, there is a lot of anxiety around these types of diagnoses, she said. ....
