Free meals in Austin: Here's where to find food from local restaurants

Austin 360
Austin businesses are working to get food to people who need it, as a battered city’s residents continue to face power outages, water outages and below-freezing temperatures.
Good Work Austin, a consortium of area restaurants formed during the coronavirus pandemic, is working to get free meals to people in need this week. Major local brands, including Deep Eddy Vodka, Kendra Scott and Bumble, along with the Austin Winter Storm Relief Fund, have made donations to area restaurants to provide free meals.
As roads become safer and more easily navigable, more restaurants are opening and offering free food either on their own dime or in partnership with various sponsors. There also are many restaurants delivering meals directly to frontline workers and warming centers throughout the city.  ....

Austin artists, restaurants who led the way in 2020 pandemic

In April, with the clubs shut down and musicians feeling adrift, expressive pop artist
Mobley embarked on an ambitious project. He randomly paired 15 musicians and 15 filmmakers to create a visual album with a process structured around the surrealist drawing game exquisite corpse.
In the game, a scene is formed as each player draws a part then folds the paper to obscure their contribution before handing off to the next player. For the visual album, each artist was provided an end clip of the preceding song. They were each given two days to complete their work and the project’s title: “Home Unfamiliar” was their only prompt. Top Austin talents like Shakey Graves, Wild Child’s Kelsey Wilson, Sweet Spirit’s Sabrina Ellis and Spoon’s Jim Eno contributed.    ....

How Austin Italian Restaurant L'Oca d'Oro Adapted to COVID-19 Pandemic

Eater Austin: How is the COVID-19 pandemic affecting business right now?
Adam Orman: L’Oca d’Oro is not really a restaurant right now so much as a food production facility. We were not going to open our dining room and risk the health of our employees until numbers were much lower for much longer than they’ve been. But, we couldn’t allow our employees to depend on the uncertainty of unemployment benefits. We aggressively sought contracts from the city to prepare meals for food-insecure populations that would allow restaurants to hire back staff, feed people, and generate predictable, consistent revenue. In the last six months, L’Oca and other Good Work Austin [GWA, a nonprofit restaurant coalition] restaurants have produced over 300,000 meals funded by the city, grants, and donations. ....
