Jan. 28 An FBI agent specializing in domestic terrorism said Ian Benjamin Rogers sent out a series of text messages threatening Gov. Gavin Newsom, Democrats and social media organizations the week before he was arrested for possessing an arsenal of weaponry at his Napa home and business.
The affidavit is the first time that law enforcement has presented evidence that Rogers wasn’t just obsessed with weaponry, but considered “going to war” if Trump had to give up the presidency.
Rogers, 43, believed that Trump had won the presidential election and should not leave office, Special Agent Stephanie Minor wrote in an affidavit supporting federal charges that he had possessed five pipe bombs at his business, British Auto Repair of the Napa Valley. ....

Napa business owner pleads not guilty to weapons charges; bail lowered to $1.5M


Facing more than two dozen state and federal charges in connection to what authorities have described as a cache of pipe bombs, rifles and ammunition at his home and auto repair business, Ian Rogers pleaded not guilty to the charges Friday morning in Napa Superior Court.

Defense attorney Jess Raphael entered the plea on behalf of the 44-year-old owner of British Auto Repair of the Napa Valley during a hearing at the Napa County Courthouse, where Rogers was arraigned Jan. 20 on 28 counts of possessing pipe bombs and illegal firearms. Rogers took part in the hearing by video, having been held in the Napa County Jail since his arrest Jan. 15. ....

Jan. 27 The U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Francisco filed charges in federal court Tuesday against Ian Benjamin Rogers of Napa, saying he possessed five pipe bombs, classified as unregistered destruction devices.
The federal charges follow the filing last week of 28 felony counts against Rogers by the Napa County District Attorney’s Office in Napa Superior Court for possessing bombs and illegal firearms. The Napa County criminal complaint also included the five pipe bombs.
“We allege that Ian Benjamin Rogers possessed homemade pipe bombs and the materials to make more,” said U.S. Attorney David L. Anderson. “We draw a bright line between lawlessness and our constitutional freedoms. We will prosecute illegal weapons stockpiles regardless of the motivation of the offender.” ....
