An early nickname for the city of Savannah, Georgia was “the Forest City.” It’s known for its ample oak trees, which shade city streets and provide environmental resilience. But in recent years, these trees have been suffering damage and dwindling because of city development and an increase in intense storm events. This damage costs the city millions in debris removal and environmental degradation, and the species that have long stood tall in Savannah are diminished. ....

New Delhi [India], January 11 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Monday disposed of a petition seeking direction to the Aam Aadmi Party government not to grant admissions for nursery classes for the 2021-22 session for the 3-4 years age group due to COVID-19 pandemic after the Delhi government said it would consider the petitioner s representation and the petitioner expressed satisfaction.
A single-judge bench of Justice Prateek Jalan disposed of the petition filed by Advocate Rajat Vats after the petitioner expressed satisfaction with the response made by Delhi Government. ....

COVID-19 deaths surge amid record new cases as Britain enters lockdown
Another 830 COVID-19 deaths were announced Tuesday, just hours before today’s national lockdown in Britain comes into operation. Daily cases hit a record of 60,916 the eighth successive day with over 50,000. In the 11 days since December 26, there were 6,035 Covid deaths and over half a million new cases (551,328).
At a Downing Street press conference yesterday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson was forced to acknowledge that more than 1.1 million people now had the virus in England. Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty revealed that on September 10, due to the previous lockdown, only one in 900 people in England had the virus. By this week, one in 50 have it and one in 30 in London. ....
