Study Reveals Naturalizing Undocumented Immigrants Has Economic Benefit

New research conducted by Progressive Think Tank Keystone Research Center, announced in May, revealed that naturalizing undocumented immigrants in Pennsylvania would substantially benefit the state’s budget. Pennsylvania is home to 900,000 individuals who have an immigrant background, accounting for 7% of Pennsylvania’s population. Among them, 160,000 are undocumented.

Muhammed Maisum Murtaza of the Keystone Research Center conducted the study, called – “The economic contribution of Pennsylvania immigrants.” The survey revealed that Pennsylvania employs 94,000 undocumented immigrants. The Center, analyzing data from a survey conducted by the Institute for Tax and Economic Policy in 2017, found that undocumented immigrants account for nearly $135 million in state and local taxes. If these immigrants became U.S. citizens, the tax payments would have increased by $51 million for higher-paying ....

Senate Finance Chair Wants to Keep 2% Tax Cut, or Increase it

The Ohio Senate is now considering the $74.7 billion two-year state budget, which includes a 2% income tax cut. And the Republican who’s leading the committee looking at the spending plan says he hopes that will change.
Senate Finance Committee chair Matt Dolan (R-Chagrin Falls) said while he’s concerned about the $410 million in spending the House added to the budget, and also has questions about the $1.8 billion school funding formula overhaul, he likes the tax cut Republican representatives put in. ....

Texans like to brag that everything is bigger in Texas. And when it comes to financial issues, that’s certainly true: Property taxes, state sales tax, tax burdens on low-income residents, and corporate tax breaks. All are bigger in Texas.
Yet, our state leaders regularly look south and want to emulate Texas’ two biggest tax benefits: no corporate income tax and no personal income tax. Oklahoma lawmakers this session are again talking about eliminating these revenue sources to attract new business and industry. ....
