Public asked to be part of a 'Citizens' Jury' on how personal health records are used

A nationwide campaign has been launched to find 25 members of the public, broadly representative of the Irish population, who are willing to be part of a “Citizens’ Jury” on what should happen to a person’s health information.
It comes in advance of the creation of a national electronic health record which would have a summary of each individual’s medical information allowing doctors to access it regardless of what health setting the patient is attending instead of the current system where details are not automatically shared.
The new campaign from Irish Platform for Patients’ Organisations, Science & Industry aims to get the views of the public on what wider use this information should be put to, such as research. ....

Nothing can stop Christmas not even 2020.

'My son needs me. Carers must be first in vaccine line'

Anger and frustration is growing that Covid vaccines are not being made a priority for carers looking after vulnerable or incapacitated family members.
Carers claim they should be viewed as frontline healthcare workers to get access to vaccines because of their vital work in giving full-time care to people with serious health conditions.
I m terrified I could get Covid-19 and give it to my son Jack, who has chronic lung disease and cardiac issues, said Aisling McNiffe (47).
I give Jack the 24-hours- a-day care at home that he needs. Who will care for him if I get sick? said Aisling, a lone parent and sole carer of her 15-year-old son. ....

Access, funding stand in Africa's path to getting Coronavirus vaccine

Access, funding stand in Africa’s path to getting Coronavirus vaccine
As many countries around the world are making important decisions about who gets vaccinated against Covid-19, Africa is increasingly on a razor edge as access to the vaccine is not guaranteed.
The challenge facing Africa is access: availability of the required vaccine doses and access to financing to make purchases.
Specifically, Africa is scaling walls in the ongoing global race to access the vaccine as rich countries, representing just 13 percent of the world’s population, have already cornered more than half (51 percent) of the promised doses of leading Covid-19 vaccine candidates, according to Oxfam International. ....
