The High Commission of India in London has condemned a debate among some British lawmakers on an e-petition over the right of peaceful protests and freedom of the press in India amid the ongoing farmers’ stir against three New Delhi laws on agricultural reform. The Commission damned the debate, held on Monday evening inside the British parliamentary premises, as “false assertions” in a “distinctly one-sided discussion”.
“We deeply regret that rather than a balanced debate, false assertions without substantiation or facts were made, casting aspersions on the largest functioning democracy in the world and its institutions,” the commission said in a statement after the Monday evening debate ....

BJP plans outreach programme to counter opposition's narrative over farm laws

The Bharatiya Jana Party (BJP) has chalked out a strategy to dispel the misconceptions over the farm laws. The saffron party has asked the leaders to reach out to the masses, especially farmers on three farm laws.
On Tuesday, BJP president JP Nadda chaired a meeting which was attended by Union ministers Amit Shah, Narendra Singh Tomar and leaders from all ranks from states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. BJP MPs from the sugarcane belt of western Uttar Pradesh Sanjeev Balyan and Satyapal Singh also attended the meeting. Balyan is a Lok Sabha MP from Muzaffarnagar while Singh represents the Bagpat constituency. ....

Centre puts Farm Laws on Hold for 18 months:- In a significant move, the Centre decided to put the introduced three farm laws on hold for the next 18 months after the farmers have been protesting against them. Several rounds of discussions failed completely and the farmers are not in a mood to make amendments. The Supreme Court too shocked the Centre recently and the farmers are all set for a massive protest on January 26th. The farmer unions refused to appear before the Supreme Court appointed experts committee. The Centre during their talks offered to form a joint committee of the government along with the farmer union representatives in it. ....

A day after the Supreme Court left it up to the police to decide if protesting farmers could enter Delhi on Republic Day for a tractor rally, farmer leader Dr Darshanpal told NDTV they may not be allowed to use the Outer Ring Road. He added that they have no plan of backing down.
We met officers of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh police today. They sought details about the route we intend to take and the number of protestors expected. The police have said farmers using the Outer Ring Road for tractor rally could lead to inconvenience. They have not said anything about giving us permission, Dr Dardhanpal said. ....
