Jilani said that before the pandemic, low-wage Latino and Black workers experienced “very good wage growth,” saying the economy “was largely working for them” during the early years of the Trump administration. “I think the ultimate takeaway is you can’t assume that somebody because of their cultural, ethnic [or] racial background happens to lean a certain way,” he said. “I think that the attitudes of politicians as well as the conditions of the economy, the conditions of politics can actually shift a lot of these voters who are not necessarily a lock for any party.” ....
