Two new Adjunct Professors join the Centre for Defence and Security Studies

Massey University s Centre for Defence and Security Studies (CDSS) has announced the appointments of two new Adjunct Professors to the Centre.
Ian Hill, a recently retired career diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Martyn Dunne, CNZM, QSO, former CEO of the New Zealand Customs Service and Ministry for Primary Industries, and former New Zealand High Commissioner to Australia.
The Adjunct Professors will be guest lecturing for various courses in security and defence studies and contributing to the Centre s National Security Journal. They will be supporting the Centre s valuable relations with stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, New Zealand Defence Force, Ministry of Primary Industries and others. ....

WELLINGTON (Reuters) – New Zealand wants a more mature relationship with China that goes beyond trade ties and gives room for disagreement, particularly on issues of human rights, the Pacific nation’s foreign minister said on Friday.
Nanaia Mahuta’s comments come after Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said this week that differences with its top trading partner were getting harder to reconcile, and the country’s parliament unanimously declared human rights abuses were taking place against Uyghur people in China’s Xinjiang region, angering Beijing. ....

WELLINGTON, May 7 (Reuters) - New Zealand wants a more mature relationship with China that goes beyond trade ties and gives room for disagreement, particularly on issues of human rights, the Pacific nation s foreign minister said on Friday.
Nanaia Mahuta s comments come after Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said this week that differences with its top trading partner were getting harder to reconcile, and the country s parliament unanimously declared human rights abuses were taking place against Uyghur people in China s Xinjiang region, angering Beijing.
It s important for us to ensure we are respectful, consistent and predictable in the way we convey issues we agree on, but also on issues we don t agree on. And it s part of our maturing relationship, Mahuta said in an interview with Reuters. ....
