Montgomery: Alabama is turning to social media to encourage more people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The Department of Public Health announced a TikTok contest to encourage young people to get vaccinated before the start of the school year. The contest is for people ages 13 to 29. To participate, contestants should submit a TikTok video showing themselves getting vaccinated or include a creative message explaining, “This is why I got vaccinated.” All videos must tag @alcovidvaccine, #getvaccinatedAL and #ADPH. Winners will be determined based on creativity, originality and popularity measured by the numbers of likes and shares. The videos should be submitted by Aug. 6. An internet service provider is moving its headquarters from Georgia to Alabama. Point Broadband recently announced the relocation of its headquarters from West Point, Georgia, to the Alabama city of Opelika. Local media reports that the company is leasing space in Opelika until its new facility is completed. Company officials say it will bring at least 25 new jobs to the Alabama city. Point Broadband of Alabama, LLC has decided to relocate its headquarters to Opelika. The city council voted to approve an agreement with the company following a public hearing. The move is expected to create an additional 25 jobs in Opelika, and the city will provide financial incentives to the company which may cash incentives, performance incentives, tax abatements and tax exemptions.
Chief General Council for Point Broadband, Chad Wachter said that the company discussed the significance of the acquisition of the OPS One in November 2018. “It was a really early significant milestone when we reached the agreement with Opelika to purchase OPS system,” Wachter said.
