Raul Ruiz, D-Palm Desert, was one of 200 people who made the exclusive in-person guest list Wednesday night as President Joe Biden addressed a joint session of Congress. Joining him as his virtual guest was Dr. Conrado Bárzaga, CEO of the Desert Healthcare District. The address marked the 100th day of the president’s term. In the past, Ruiz has invited a constituent to join him in Washington, D.C., as his guest to such addresses, but due to COVID-19 safety protocols, in-person attendance was limited. ....

Ruiz was seated just a few seats from First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, and grabbed a selfie with the president moments after the speech. News Channel 3 s Jake Ingrassia spoke to the congressman to get his reaction to what he heard as Biden marked his first 100 days in office. A new California bill would lay the groundwork for farmworkers, grocery store employees and other food sector workers to be prioritized for vaccine distribution and rapid testing during this pandemic and future ones. While still short on specifics, AB 93 is intended to ensure the food sector workers, as essential workers who have been hard-hit by COVID-19, are near the front of the line for vaccination. Teachers quickly move to get vaccinated ahead of return to school classroom Palm Springs Unified School District is gearing up to bring students back into the classrooms. The district s plan is to have students pre-K to second grade return to in-person learning beginning April 12th. Class sizes will be reduced to at least half their usual size, the district set a maximum capacity of 14 students and staff in a classroom in order to ensure social distancing can be maintained. Students in all grade levels K-12 are required to wear face coverings at all times while in the classroom, on campus, on the school bus, or any school event, unless there is a written medical exemption. ....
Riverside County still in ‘planning stage of vaccinating homeless population Natalia Gurevich Every day, Mark McGowan pulls a handful of names from a list of about 230 homeless people living at the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission and around its campus. The supervisor has to receive word from the shelter s in-house medical provider SAC Health System that there are available vaccines before he springs into action. Once he does, he and a staff member pile into a van along with chosen clients and drive to the nearby Loma Linda University Children’s Health in Indio, where the vaccines are administered to some of the Coachella Valley’s most vulnerable individuals.
