PATRICK MARMION reviews I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change

Rating: Boy, am I glad the dating game is behind me. That, though, is the subject of this amiable revival of I Love You, You re Perfect, Now Change, an off-Broadway hit show which is basically a cradle-to-grave survey of dating, with all its very special agonies. Masochists will need little encouragement; but others (including myself) may prefer to watch from behind the sofa. Joe DiPietro and Jimmy Roberts s musical revue ran in New York from 1996-2008, but it s updated here with nods to Netflix and yes, you guessed it, Covid. Significantly, the pre-recorded show, starring Brenda Edwards, Alice Fearn, Oliver Tompsett and Simon Lipkin, has not been timed for Valentine s Day (it ends tomorrow). No one can go out on a date, anyway; but this is a musical that might serve as a paradoxical comfort for singletons.
