Conservatives remain concerned about federal legislation known as the Equality Act and are also opposed to a Republican alternative.
Just before the U.S. House approved the controversial bill that promises to toss aside biblical-based objections, upend women s-only sports, and alter the historic Civil Rights Act, Representative Chris Stewart (R-Utah) announced his Fairness for All Act (FFA). He says the legislation aims to protect everyone s dignity in public spaces and adds that it harmonizes religious freedom and LGBT rights by amending the Civil Rights Act, protecting religious freedom in the workplace, protecting the rights of LGBT individuals, and preserving First Amendment rights. ....

Bay Area Reporter :: Strategy talks in high gear to get Equality Act across the finish line

With a House vote on the Equality Act set for next week, talks between LGBTQ rights advocates and Capitol Hill have begun on getting the legislation across the finish line with Democratic control of both chambers of Congress and the White House, although that has become more complicated with opponents raising fears about transgender kids in sports and Senator Mitt Romney s (R-Utah) newly declared opposition to the bill.
The Equality Act was formally reintroduced Thursday (February 18) by gay Congressman David Cicilline (D-Rhode Island) and Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon)
LGBTQ rights supporters, who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity for greater candor, said they were engaged in talks with lawmakers including in the Senate, where the major fight will be in the same week House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Maryland) announced a floor vote would take place on the Equality Act. ....

Utah's four members of the House, all Republicans, voted Thursday against stripping committee assignments from Rep. Marlorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., because of her support of QAnon, conspiracy theories and comments advocating violence.

Utah’s four members of the House, all Republicans, voted Thursday against stripping committee assignments from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., because of her support of QAnon, conspiracy theories and comments advocating violence. However, the measure passed the House on a mostly party-line 230-199 vote.
Reps. Chris Stewart, John Curtis and Blake Moore, R-Utah, denounced Taylor Greene’s actions and comments as abhorrent, but said it should be the responsibility of Republicans — not Democrats — to punish her.
“I condemn the hateful comments Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene made prior to coming to Congress. They are abhorrent and do not represent the values or beliefs of the Republican Party,” Stewart wrote in a statement. ....
