HBO is rebranding its Latinx outreach platforms in an effort to spark conversations, create content, and explore Latinx voices. HBO Max Pa’lante, the new apt rebranding, takes its name from the Spanish slang for “go ahead” or “forward.” But its meaning goes deeper than that, especially for someone Latinx like me. It’s a way of striving out of your comfort zone, pushing forward in spite of obstacles, and taking hold of the opportunities presented to you. It’s a concept, and understanding, built on empowerment. Sur 254 députés élus en Côté d’Ivoire, 32 sont des femmes. Au sein de l’hémicycle, elles représenteront 12,5% du total des élus. Bien loin des chiffres espérés après l’adoption en 2019, d’une loi ordonnant aux partis politiques de présenter au moins 30% de candidates pour les assemblées élues. La faible représentation des femmes au sein de l’Assemblée n’est pas une surprise : aucun des partis politiques n’a respecté la loi sur le quota. ....

Kyrsten Sinema's Thumbs-Down on $15 Minimum Wage Was a Disgrace to Women


The Democrats have defined themselves in contrast to the Republican Party by attempting to embrace liberal representation politics. As feminist columnist Jessica Valenti points out, misogyny is openly baked into Republican politics, leaving space for Democrats to swoop in and claim the feminist mantle, in large part by focusing on electing “firsts.” The 2018 election of Kyrsten Sinema in Arizona, the first out bisexual woman in Congress, is one example of this.
However, Sinema caught national attention on Friday during the COVID-19 relief bill vote, when she thumbed-down a provision for an incremental raise towards a $15 minimum wage, live on C-SPAN in a vivid performance of coy white womanhood. While the Biden team, during its campaign season, claimed that raising the minimum wage would be a priority, Democratic politics as usual meant they quickly backed down on this commitment in the COVID relief bill.
