Festival International de Louisiane has released the schedule of performances for Virtual Festival 2021, which is streaming Friday, April 23 - Sunday, April 25. Festival’s second annual virtual edition, and 35th annual overall, will feature more than 50 original performances from artists representing more than 15 countries, interspersed with archival footage from Festivals past.
Following the traditional opening ceremony on Friday night, Virtual Festival will feature The Reminders, a hip-hip duo rising in prominence with a positive message from Belgium and the United States, and Thomas Dutronc, French jazz guitarist, vocalist and son of French icons Jacques Dutronc and Françoise Hardy. ....

Last month, Quebec Premier François Legault took to Facebook to criticize “radical activists” who he said are taking political correctness to extremes. He was in part reacting to the suspension last September of a francophone University of Ottawa professor for using the N-word in class.

A 'French malaise' is eroding bilingualism in Canada's public service


There will always be a historical distinction between anglophones and francophones in Canada, but this cultural and linguistic diversity should contribute to a society based on equity and inclusion. For this to happen, proficiency in both official languages is important.
According to a recent survey by the Commissioner of Official Languages of 10,828 federal public servants in five administrative regions (Ottawa-Gatineau, New Brunswick and bilingual regions in Quebec and Ontario), more than 44 per cent of francophones feel uncomfortable using French at work, while only 11 per cent of francophones feel the same way about using English at work.
Of those 44 per cent of francophones, more than 37 per cent feel uncomfortable using French at work during meetings. WASHINGTON - Prominent Black lawmakers are urging the Biden administration to stop expelling migrants to nations such as Haiti that are engulfed in political turmoil, fearing that they could be harmed or killed.
