The number of births registered in Ireland has fallen by more than a quarter in the past 10 years, figures show.
Some 55,959 births were registered last year, down more than 6 per cent on the previous year, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) data found.
It represents a fall of more than a quarter (25.4 per cent), or 19,017 fewer births, since 2010.
The annual birth rate is now 11.2 per 1,000 of population compared with 16.5 per 1,000 of population in 2010. ....
