Ocean City planners approve housing, retail at former Phillips Crab House site

OCEAN CITY, Md. The former site of Phillips Crab House in north Ocean City will be completely redeveloped into a mixture of multi-family apartments with retail and restaurant spaces.
The developer, Ocean Two LLC, went before the Ocean City Planning and Zoning Commission last week and received approval for its 6,840 square foot building at the corner of 141st Street and Coastal Highway.
The structure will contain 36 apartments and up to five commercial spaces, according to the presentation during the April 20 meeting.
The exact use of the residential side of the project hasn t been worked out yet, but the property will feature one, two and three-bedroom apartments, according to the presentation. The property will also contain five commercial spaces with two spaces slated to be restaurants. ....

Ocean City's Beach Plaza Hotel permanently closing its doors

OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Beach Plaza Hotel on the Ocean City boardwalk has permanently shut its doors.
The family, who also owns Phillips Crab House, has owned the hotel for almost 50 years. A spokesperson says the estate of the founders, Brice and Shirley Phillips, needed to be closed. So the family had to make the difficult decision about how to move forward with the various estate assets, ultimately deciding to enter into a contract to sell the entire hotel property.
Steve Phillips, the son of the founders, says in a statement, “Through our nearly 50 years operating on the Boardwalk, we’ve loved getting to know all our guests who stayed with us year after year. The Beach Plaza Hotel was a wonderful home base for thousands of beach vacations, weekend getaways, wedding and anniversary celebrations and reunions, and we’re so grateful to have been a part of these unforgettable memories in Ocean City.” ....
