Share Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most honored college honorary society, has inducted 221 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students as new members. The recent induction ceremony featured remarks by Chancellor Kevin M. Guskiewicz and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Robert A. Blouin, and a keynote address by Viji Sathy, a psychology and neuroscience professor of the practice. Phi Beta Kappa membership is open to undergraduates in the College of Arts & Sciences and professional degree programs who meet stringent eligibility requirements. A student who has completed 75 hours of coursework in the liberal arts and sciences with a GPA of 3.85 or better, on a 4-point scale, is eligible for membership. Also eligible is any student who has completed 105 hours of coursework in the liberal arts and sciences with a 3.75 GPA. Grades earned at other universities are not considered. Less than 1% of all college students qualify. ....

March 5, 2021 The Gamma Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Washington State University is accepting applications through April 1, 2021 from undergraduates for 2021-22 scholarships that cover full tuition costs plus mandatory fees. Students from all WSU campuses are eligible to apply. “The Gamma Chapter is very pleased to once again offer scholarships that recognize and foster excellence in liberal learning at the undergraduate level,” said Kim Holapa, chair of the chapter’s scholarship committee. Since the 2010-11 academic year, the Gamma Chapter has awarded generous scholarships to rising seniors from a variety of majors. Also, each spring the chapter invites new members to join the society, becoming members for life. ....
Zakiyya Ellington February 21, 2021 Zakiyya Ellington, a senior from Allen, Texas, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Arabic, a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business analytics. (Photo by Dorothy Kozlowski/UGA) Foundation Fellow Zakiyya Ellington came to UGA, in part for the big sports atmosphere and in part for the travel associated with her fellowship. She’s studied at Oxford, and traveled to Tanzania, Morocco, Spain, France and Costa Rica. Still one of her favorite UGA experiences was playing women’s club rugby, which taught her to be fearless. Up next, she’ll be pursuing a master’s degree in global affairs in China. ....
