New partnership bring health services to Walnut Square residents

New partnership bring health services to Walnut Square residents
A new partnership aims to bridge the gap between health care services and social determinants of health in the Walnut Square apartment community in New Orleans East.
New Orleans East Hospital and Social Health Bridge, an organization founded in 2019 by Missouri-based Centene Corporation to address social barriers to health, said they will visit residents to offer health screenings, telehealth assistance, home wellness checks, chronic disease management, education and other help.
“As a result of this partnership, patients and their family members will have increased access to healthcare services and a wide variety of community focused services supported by the onsite community health worker,” said Dr. Takeisha Davis, CEO of NOEH. “Patients can rest assured knowing they have access to the high-quality patient-centered care New Orleans East Hospital is known for providing.” ....

All New Orleans public school employees who want the COVID-19 vaccine are on track to receive their first dose by the end of this week, the district said in a press release Tuesday.
Nearly 3,000 of the district’s 8,000 eligible employees had received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine through the district’s partnership with local healthcare providers as of Monday.
Officials expected vaccine distribution to take between six and eight weeks but Tuesday’s press release said they were able to cut the timeline in half due to increased availability.
“Our ability to complete this process in just under three weeks is a testament to the commitment of our healthcare partners, schools’ leaders, and school staff,” the press release said. ....

When Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards extended vaccine eligibility to K-12 school employees at the end of February, teachers expected long wait times. But so far in New Orleans that hasn’t been the case.
Vaccination efforts appear to be ahead of schedule, particularly for NOLA Public School teachers. Twice as many teachers were vaccinated during the first week of distribution than originally anticipated, according to the district, which is helping schedule appointments for its employees.
The district credits its speedy rollout to the availability of doses and advanced planning surveying teachers to gauge interest and partnering with local hospitals to secure appointments. ....
