Westchester, Rockland schools ranked highly by U S News and World Report

Twenty-five high schools in the Lower Hudson Valley rank among the top 100 in New York state, according to U.S. News and World Report s annual rankings. Bronxville High School ranked highest in the region, No. 13 in New York and No. 145 in the nation. It is the highest-ranking high school in the state outside of New York City. Edgemont (14), Byram Hills (18) and Rye (19) also made the top 20 out more than 1,200 schools. Nanuet High School staked Rockland County s place in the top 100, ranking No. 96. The top-ranking high school in Putnam County is Haldane High School, coming in at No. 125. Townsend Harris High School in Queens maintained its 2020 spot as the No. 1 high school in New York. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, kept its ranking as the top high school in the country.

Peters Valley Craft Gallery chooses annual competition winners New Jersey Herald SANDYSTON In a virtual reception, Peters Valley Craft Gallery announced the winners of its 11th annual high school student art competition. Taking the Best of Show award was Kaitlyn Czifra of Wallkill Valley Regional High School for her work titled  Reckoning . Second place was awarded to Sophia Papadopoulo of Blair Academy for her My Imperfect Cracks sculpture. The annual show features two- and three-dimensional artwork by students in grades 9-12 from participating schools in northern New Jersey and adjacent areas of Pennsylvania and New York. Third place was awarded to Kevin Dau from Sparta High School for an installation titled Chasing the Dream, while Cameron Minetti, also from Sparta High School received honorable mention for the stone sculpture, Infinity.  

Ex-NYPD cop Thomas Webster charged in flag pole attack at Capitol riot

Rockland/Westchester Journal News A retired New York City cop from Orange County was denied bail Tuesday following his arrest on charges that he attacked a police officer with a flagpole during last month s riot at the Capitol. Thomas Webster, of Goshen, was heard on video cursing and attacking the officer and also on a YouTube video as he was on a staircase outside the Capitol announcing, Send more patriots. We need some help. Webster, 54, was in White Plains federal court Tuesday, a day after turning himself in to the FBI. The charges against him in the U.S. District Court in Washington include assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
