Panasonic to buy US supply-chain software firm Blue Yonder for $6.5 bn: Nikkei

Panasonic Corp will buy US supply-chain software firm Blue Yonder for 700 billion yen ($6.45 billion), in the Japanese electronics firm’s biggest acquisition since 2011, the Nikkei reported on Monday.
Panasonic, which bought a 20 per cent stake in Blue Yonder for 86 billion yen last year, is in the final stages of acquiring the rest of the stock from shareholders, including Blackstone Group Inc, the Nikkei said, without saying where it obtained the information.
“This is not something that has been announced by our company. It is not true that it is something we have decided,” Panasonic said in an emailed statement. ....

Indian scientists have indigenously designed and developed a low-cost optical spectrograph that can locate sources of faint light from distant quasars and galaxies in a very young universe, regions around supermassive black-holes around the galaxies, and cosmic explosions.
Such spectroscopes were so far imported from abroad involved high costs. The ‘Made in India’ optical spectrograph, named as Aries-Devasthal Faint Object Spectrograph & Camera (ADFOSC), designed and developed by Aryabhatta Research Institute of observational sciences (ARIES), Nainital, an autonomous institute of Department of Science and Technology (DST), is about 2.5 times less costly compared to the imported ones and can locate sources of light with a photon-rate as low as about 1 photon per second. ....
