Alberta, âBertâ, Marie (Szablewski) Catalano Alberta, “Bert”, Marie (Szablewski) Catalano, 94, of Dunkirk, went peacefully to Heaven on Jan. 19, 2021, at Chautauqua Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on May 8, 1926. She was always proud to be born in Pittsburgh and moved to Dunkirk at the age of 16. Alberta worked at Van Raalte until she met and married her husband, Leonard Catalano on June 14, 1947, at Holy Trinity Church. They were able to celebrate 70 years of marriage. Alberta was a devoted mother to her five children. She is survived by her son, Joseph (Katherine) Catalano of Grand Island, daughters: Lenore Fiebelkorn of Dunkirk, Georgian (Richard) DeForest of Cortland, N.Y., Frances Catalano of Dunkirk, son, Richard (Karen) Catalano of Fredonia; sister-in-law, Frances Roesler; and brother-in-law, Mark Clapps. ....

Longtime Jackson resident Bertram âBertâ Chester Raynes died Jan. 1 at his home surrounded by friends and caregivers. The following was written by Franz Camenzind and provided by his friends, even though Raynes would have shunned such attention. Raynes, a self-taught naturalist, bird enthusiast, author and Jackson Hole News&Guide columnist, was born March 12, 1924, in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he spent most of his childhood. His parents, Morris Raynes and Celia (Mukashey), were immigrants from Poland and Russia, respectively. He jokingly referred to himself as a âJersey Boy,â but his heart and soul were at home in Jackson Hole, where he spent the last half of his life. Once, when asked of his heritage, his reply was succinct: âEuropean horse thieves.â ....

January 6, 2021 Investigators analyzing contemporary patients admitted to a tertiary care center for acute pulmonary embolism (PE) found no sex disparities in PE management or outcomes. Pribish et al identified patients with acute PE admitted to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center between August 2012 and July 2018 using an internal billing claims database and a prospective registry of patients who received a PE response team (PERT) consult (after 2015). Retrospective chart review was used to evaluate patient demographics, comorbidities, clinical presentation, PE risk factors, PE severity, diagnostic studies, treatment modalities, and outcomes following a confirmed diagnosis of acute PE.
