Last month, President Joe Biden (“President Biden”) wrapped up his first 100 days as President of the United States – focusing on a myriad of issues from the Coronavirus pandemic (“COVID-19”) to America’s immigration system. Inasmuch as immigration affairs remained at the forefront under the previous administration, America’s immigration system continues to be a pressing topic for the Biden administration. Attorney General Alan Wilson Joins 13-State Coalition to Defend Public Charge Rule at U.S. Supreme Court

Attorney General Alan Wilson Joins 13-State Coalition to Defend Public Charge Rule at U.S. Supreme Court
(COLUMBIA, S.C.) –  May 6, 2021 – Attorney General Alan Wilson joined a coalition of 13 states to defend the Public Charge Rule, a federal immigration policy that ensures noncitizens can financially support themselves in order to become U.S. citizens or obtain green cards. For over a century, Congress has had a Public Charge requirement in one form or another. Under existing federal immigration law, noncitizens are not eligible to receive a green card if they are reliant upon government assistance, otherwise known as a “public charge.” In 2019, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) created a rule that expanded the definition of “public ....

FIRST ON FOX: A coalition of Republican states led by Arizona is urging the Supreme Court to intervene in the legal battle over a Trump-era policy that restricted immigrants who are deemed reliant on welfare from receiving green cards a policy the Biden administration has since dropped.
The public charge rule was introduced in 2019 and expanded the definition of public charge as an immigrant who receives one or more designated public benefits for more than 12 months within a 36-month period. Whether an immigrant would be a public charge would be considered when they applied for permanent residency in the U.S. ....
