But itâs not just the athletics and architecture making waves at this yearâs Games. The beauty behind Japanese landscaping and design is inspiring us to take a closer look at the Japanese gardens near our homes.

PORTLAND, Ore. Starting Thursday, KGW News at Sunrise will be broadcasting live from the Portland Japanese Gardens every weekday during the Tokyo Olympics for a series called Our Shared Journey.
It explores all the connections between Japan and the Pacific Northwest.
The Northwest shares an ocean with the island nation 5,000 miles away. Japanese Americans have been part of Oregon s story since the late 1800s. Since then, the Japanese culture, ideas and traditions have been woven into the tapestry of the Northwest.

nineteen women composers.
On Thursday, June 24th you can experience
“The Seasons” at the loading dock and parking lot of Portland Piano Company, with two shows: 5pm-6:30pm and 7pm-8:30pm. Highlights include music by Pulitzer-prize winning composer Caroline Shaw, Galina Ustvolskaya, Jessie Montgomery, Carolyn Quick, among others.
