The City is advising you to take common-sense steps to protect your health and safety as arctic temperatures impact Norwalk through the weekend, setting the stage for a potential winter storm early next week.

Mayor Rilling has opened the Community Room at the Norwalk Police Department to act as a warming center. Residents must wear a well-fitting mask or face covering (two or more layers) over their nose and mouth and secure it under their chin. Those at the Community Room must also physically distance by maintaining a space of at least six feet between themselves and those not from the same household. Complaints on the rise over extra fees for using credit cards

STATE The state has seen an increase in complaints about businesses charging an extra fee for using a credit card, according to the Department of Consumer Protection.
A business may offer a discount if a customer chooses to use one type of payment, such as cash, over another, such as a credit card. Receiving a discount for paying in cash is allowed. However, charging a surcharge, or “convenience fee,” for using a credit card is prohibited by state law.
“Consumers may not realize they cannot be charged extra simply for using their credit card,” Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull said. “But it’s important to watch out for these unlawful charges and avoid paying them before it’s too late.” ....

CT New Year's Eve: Coronavirus Rules Still In Effect

CONNECTICUT New Year s Eve won t be an exception for state coronavirus rules regarding bars and restaurants. Bars will remain closed and restaurants must close by 10 p.m. in accordance with Gov. Ned Lamont s executive orders.
That also means no jam-packed celebrations either restaurants will remain at 50 percent capacity and alcohol must be served with meals. There is an eight guest limit per table as well.
Businesses that violate the orders can be subject to fines or liquor license suspensions.

HAMDEN, CT A Hamden cafe s liquor license was suspended after about 180 people were found packed inside late Friday night in violation of the state s coronavirus regulations, according to officials.
Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull on Thursday issued a summary suspension of the liquor permit for Café Studio 1537, located at 1537 Dixwell Avenue in Hamden.
Café Studio 1537 hosted a large private gathering Dec. 4, according to Seagull. Hamden police were dispatched to the cafe after receiving a complaint that the business was over capacity. Arriving officers a crowded dance floor with about 150 people, many who weren t wearing masks, according to officials. ....
