Residential Tenant Landlord Ordinance protects suburban Cook County renters

Today, I am proud to stand with Commissioners Scott Britton and Kevin Morrison, as well as every Cook County commissioner who sponsored or supported the Residential Tenant Landlord Ordinance (RTLO).
This piece of legislation affirms the rights of renters in suburban Cook County who lacked critical protections against lockouts, excessive move-in and late fees, and exorbitant interest rates on rental arrears.
This will mean that more residents will be able to stay in their homes at the time they need support the most.

The New Mexico Statehouse was largely evacuated on Wednesday as hundreds of supporters of President Donald Trump gathered peacefully outside the building and violence broke out in the nation s Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Democratic Speaker Brian Egolf said state police ordered the evacuation of the building that includes the governor´s office and secretary of state’s office, though some officials remained inside. He highlighted concerns about the violence in Washington.
A spokesman for the governor s office said there was no indication of threats and unrest. Caravans of Donald Trump supporters arrived at the building in cars, trucks and on horseback at midday. ....

New Mexico s top elections official is urging a federal court to dismiss a challenge by President Donald Trump of absentee voting procedures for ballot drop boxes. She also wants Trump s campaign to be sanctioned for pursuing meritless litigation.
The response from Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver comes as Congress on Wednesday holds a join session to count electoral votes. The usually routine step in the path toward inauguration could drag on as some Republicans plan to challenge Biden’s victory in at least six states. OP-ED: Sharpsburg Human Rights Ordinance was more contentious than it appears

Guyasuta Square/Heinz Memorial Plaza in Sharpsburg This was never a story about passing an ordinance. If it were, then the last several months might make sense. It might make sense that an informed borough council worked hard to craft a meaningful Human Rights Ordinance that would protect, not only LGBTQIA citizens, but citizens of every race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, marital status, familial status, and veteran status. It might make sense that they carefully considered the opinions of their solicitor and collaborated to get it right.
Yes, that story would make sense. But those of us who’ve been paying attention for the last few months, and who have seen the video record of the council meetings since the ordinance was introduced, know differently. I live in Sh ....
