5 Diet Tips for People With Rheumatoid Arthritis
Kimberly Goad
Food isn’t a cure-all for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but it plays a surprisingly big role when it comes to managing the condition. Research, including a study published in 2020 in
Contemporary Clinical Trials Communications, shows that making smart diet decisions can help control the inflammation that wreaks havoc in the body. Of course, the same food choices won’t be “right” for everyone but these five tips may help put you on the right track.

People of color, those with a higher income and younger individuals are more likely to participate in clinical trials during their cancer treatment according to a new study from the University of Missouri School of Medicine.

Survey years selected included the question, Did you participate in a clinical trial as part of your cancer treatment? The analysis of 20,053 respondents revealed an average overall clinical trial participation rate of 6.51%. Among 17,600 white respondents, participation was 6.24%; among 445 Hispanic respondents, participation was ....

Which Sugars Are Good for You — and Which Ones to Avoid

Natural vs. Added Sugar: What’s the Difference?
Natural sugars are the ones found in whole, unprocessed foods such as the fructose in bananas or berries, or lactose in a glass of skim milk, says Vanessa Voltolina, RDN, a clinical dietitian in Westchester, New York.
“Foods with natural sugars tend to be low in calories and sodium, and high in water content and many important vitamins and minerals,” she explains. The fiber in fruits slows down how quickly your body digests it, so you don’t get the same sugar spike you get after eating a doughnut, Voltolina says. And the lactose in milk comes with a healthy serving of protein that provides sustained energy, so you feel full longer than after a sugar-packed soda. ....

Let's Tackle The Hidden Real-World Reasons For Poor Clinical Trial Diversity

Let s Tackle The Hidden Real-World Reasons For Poor Clinical Trial Diversity
By Eleanor Perfetto, Ph.D., and Jeanne M. Regnante
Disparities in clinical research participation are well documented and, like broader healthcare disparities, a byproduct of systemic and institutional racism. COVID-19 vaccine and treatment development have greatly amplified the need for all communities to have the same opportunity to participate in research. To achieve better outcomes and health equity for historically underserved populations, we must address the not widely acknowledged, hidden, real-world reasons for such poor diversity in clinical trials. The importance is clear: People’s lives depend on it. ....
