Montvale NJ diversity committee donates books for Black History Month


Her second-grade daughter is reading  Marley Dias Gets it Done
,  authored by Marley Dias, a 14-year-old activist, writer and founder of the #1000BlackGirlBooks campaign, who is a native of West Orange.
She is an avid reader, Auer said of her daughter.  Reading books like that, it inspires her because she sees herself and she is so excited.  
For Black History Month in February, the borough s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, which Auer leads, donated books to the Memorial Elementary School library that
 kids can enjoy year-round. 
Our committee likes to think of innovative ways to celebrate, Auer said. We thought it would be a great way to introduce some diverse characters. ....

Before thousands in the audience at the 2019 TEDxUGA speaker showcase, the stand-out Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver and New England Patriots Super Bowl champion laid out the long list of injuries he suffered in the sport that has defined him.
“My knees have finally had enough,” he said. “Football is over.”
He was 25 and retiring from a career he had trained for his whole life.
Onstage, he paused, fighting his body’s urge to break down and weep in front of everyone. But he gathered himself and declared his resolve to move on. ....

As Scholastic again joins the nonprofit LitWorld today (February 3) in the 12th annual World Read Aloud Day.
The LitWorld program itself has an “activity hub” here with resources for World Read Aloud Day. And Scholastic’s offering, which parallels that of the LitWorld effort, has a download available (PDF) of titles recommended for reading aloud at age groups between 0 and 12 years. Scholastic also has a store set up for the event here. ....

Writers for the FOX hit The Resident have spent the past several months hard at work on the show’s fourth season, crafting storylines for the medical series that reflect the real-life drama of the pandemic.
We wanted to capture this moment, says Eric I. Lu, a writer for the show and graduate of Harvard Medical School.  We wanted to really showcase what was actually happening through the eyes and through the lens of our characters who were going through this. Because we understood that fundamentally, this was a pivotal moment in time. ....
