Dinnertainment to return to Greensboro's Barn Dinner Theatre

GREENSBORO — When The Barn Dinner Theatre reopens June 19, patrons will notice changes since the COVID-19 pandemic closed it temporarily 15 months ago.
Capacity will be cut from 254 to 125.
Some tables will be empty to maintain social distancing between them.
The buffet will be gone, replaced by plated dinners.
Patrons will find menu and cast details not on paper but through QR codes on phones.
The long-running dinner theater on Stagecoach Trail opted to keep some precautions, even though Gov. Roy Cooper has lifted most mandatory mask requirements and all mandatory capacity, gathering and social distancing requirements.
“We are doing everything that is required and then some to make it safe,” said Ric Gutiérrez, general manager and producer. ....

Area venues start to reopen after pandemic closed them down


“When are you going to open?” they asked Gutiérrez, general manager and producer.
Gutiérrez finally has an answer.
On June 19, the long-running dinner theater on Stagecoach Trail will reopen with “9 to 5.”
It’s the same musical that the theater closed down abruptly on March 19, 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic stopped live entertainment worldwide.
“This is the most people we have had in here since then,” an excited Gutiérrez said as he and Director Mitchel Sommers greeted the returning cast for the first rehearsal on an evening in early May.
It’s one sign that doors to some live entertainment venues have begun to creak open slowly and cautiously. ....

'Ensemble was his heart': Friends and former students remember beloved Weaver drama teacher


He was 69 years old. 
Friends, colleagues and loved ones interviewed on Thursday and Friday often remembered him in contrasts. Stern, but loving. Passionate, but calming. An individual who stood out for creating seamless ensembles.
His student casts and crews won the “Outstanding Achievement in Ensemble Theatre” award at the North Carolina Theatre Conference an unprecedented 16 times.

When Seaman retired, the conference s board voted to rename the award in his honor. 
Ensemble was his heart, said his wife, Marion Seaman. 
Seaman grew up in New Jersey and first became interested in theater after starring in a church production of the Christmas musical Amahl and the Night Visitors.   ....
