French container shipping major CMA CGM plans to dedicate six new 15,000 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered containerships to the U.S. market as part of the group’s ongoing efforts to improve air quality and drive forward the energy transition of the shipping industry.
The announcement was made by
Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CMA CGM, at the opening session of TPM, a conference for the trans-Pacific and global container shipping and logistics community.

French Container Line Continues Environmental Efforts
FRANCE – US – CHINA – The CMA CGM group, which already runs 12 LNG-powered containerships, is to dedicate six new 15,000 TEU vessels to its Pearl River Express (PRX) line, which sails from China to the Port of Los Angeles.
The first of these new vessels is due for delivery in October 2021, with all ships to be fully operational by the end of 2022. CMA CGM says the move means American customers will be able to choose to transport their goods using LNG, a new technology that helps to preserve air quality by eliminating almost all atmospheric pollutants. CMA CGM to Deploy Six LNG-Powered Containerships on Transpacific – gCaptain

French shipping giant CMA CGM has announced plans to deploy six new LNG-powered containerships dedicated to the China-U.S. market.
Group Chairman and CEO Rodolphe Saadé made the announcement at the opening session TPM 2021, a leading conference focussing on tranpacific liner shipping and logistics sector.
The six ships will have capacity of 15,000 TEU each and all will be powered by liquefied natural gas. CMA CGM says that by utilizing the vessels, it will be able to offer its American customers with the option to choose LNG as their preferred fuel.
The move comes as CMA CGM is in process building the world’s largest fleet of LNG-powered ultra-large containerships as part of its on-going mission to improve air quality and transition the shipping industry to more sustainable forms of energy. ....
