This past year saw the enactment of a variety of new employment laws in California, including new disclosure requirements for employers and changes to the independent contractor landscape. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has touched nearly every sector of society, in nearly every corner of the world, and employment law in California is certainly no exception. The pandemic has ushered in a new legal landscape marked by heightened requirements for employers stretching from 2020 into 2023.
Below, we outline four new laws that require attention from California employers in the new year: (1) the new requirements for California employers in reporting wage and hour data; (2) the continuing evolution of the worker classification standard and the recent passage of Proposition 22; (3) the new COVID-19 notice requirements that will require employers to notify employees of possible exposure; and (4) the new Workers’ Compensation Disputable Presumption under SB 1 ....

GREAT FALLS — It’s not quite time yet, but some Montana school districts have begun planning to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to their teachers and staff when they are available.
According to the latest draft of the state’s COVID-19 Vaccination Plan, Frontline Essential Workers will receive the vaccine in Phase 1c. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that group includes education workers such as teachers and support staff like bus drivers and school administrators. There are some cases where school district employees could fall into Phase 1b in Montana, including if they are over the age of 70 and/or if they have a qualifying, high-risk medical condition, which the state says includes cancer, COPD, heart conditions, and others. ....

Ontario reporting 2,961 new COVID-19 cases & a rollout of Phase 2 Vaccinations, as HKPR reports 5 new cases today in our region


Ontario is reporting 29-hundred and 61 new COVID-19 infections today (Jan 13) and 74 more deaths in advance of a stay-at-home order taking effect at 12:01 a.m. that coincides with a second State of Emergency implemented yesterday (Jan 12).
Residents must stay home as of tomorrow, except for trips to the grocery store, getting exercise and going to medical appointments.
Today, the province announced the expansion of COVID-19 Immunization Program: to Seniors, Frontline Essential Workers in next phase of the rollout plan (see more details below).
